I picked them after reading Tripadvisor reviews and we chose 2 tours they offered, the Waipio Valley Hike and the Volcano National Park hike and tour. Both were excellent with great guides and clean vehicles, local food and fruits, plenty of water, all gear, etc and was overall an excellent experience.
My husband and I took the Waipi'o Rim Hike Adventure now offered by Hawaii Forest and Trail in late July. The tour is kept small, no more than 12 participants, you get to know your fellow hikers a little and are soon very comfortable even though you may be wet and covered in mud! what a tour ,beautiful waterfalls, just the right amount of hiking seeing just fantastic scenery . getting much history on the area. this includes a lunch at a viewing spot not to be missed on a trip to the big island.trip started near kona about 7am and we were done about 330 back to kona.
