Danny Almonte

Interpretive Guide

  • Home Town: Lihue, HI
  • Hobbies: Surfing, music, diving, marshall arts (taekwondo)
  • Professional Memberships: PADI
  • Ask me About: Hawaiian music, surfing
  • Favorite thing about being a Guide: Being able to share with our visitors how unique Hawaii is in its biology, geology, Hawaiian culture and history
  • Started Guiding: November 1997
  • Favorite Place on the Big Island: anywhere where the surf is good
  • Biggest Accomplishment as an Interpretive Guide: Sometimes Mother Nature provides an opportunity to witness events in nature when you're there. I've seen great breakouts in lava flows, bench collapses with litoral explosions at the Kilauea volcano and seen raging waterfalls after heavy rains in Kohala.

If Danny's your guide, make sure to ask him to sing a song on the way home: he's a great musician and has lots of fans here in the islands. A Hawaii native and original HF&T guide, Danny has been working with visitors for 25 years as a musician, dive master, and nature guide. What Danny loves best about working at HF&T is sharing his love for Hawaii and educating people about how special this place is.
